General Appearance

This breed originated in Afghanistan, where its long, fine coat offered protection from inclement weather. It is believed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of all sighthounds. The Afghan Hound is a tall dog; it stands up to 29 inches tall and weighs 50 to 60 pounds. The Afghan comes in a variety of colors and sometimes has a dark face mask.

Temperament

Afghan Hounds are often said to be difficult to train and not particularly bright. However, Afghans are intelligent dogs, even if they aren’t inclined to listen to their owners.
