Akita Puppies for Sale
Are you looking for Akita puppies for sale? Read below to learn about one of the oldest of all dog breeds.
General Appearance
Largest of the Japanese breeds, the Akita stands 26 to 28 inches and weighs 70 to 130 pounds. This heavy-boned breed has a large, bear-like head; erect, triangular ears; and a curled, spitz tail. It has a heavy, double coat that can come in any color. The American Akita often has a black mask but the Japanese Akita does not.
Temperament
The Akita is known, above all else, as being an incredibly loyal dog. Bred to function as a guard dog and big game hunter, this intelligent breed is courageous, alert, and powerful. The Akita is very independent and very dominant. It is not the easiest dog to train, but it aims to please its master.
Is an Akita Puppy Right for You?
The powerful and dominant Akita isn’t recommended for inexperienced dog owners. Since the Akita is often aggressive toward other canines, early socialization with other dogs is absolutely essential. With proper training and exercise this breed can live in urban or rural areas, but its heavy coat makes hot and humid climates a poor choice. Its coat requires regular grooming, and seasonal shedding is high.
