General Appearance

The Black Russian Terrier looks quite a bit like the Giant Schnauzer. However, it has a coat of black, wiry hair up to 4 inches in length. This is a large breed standing up to 30 inches and weighing 80 to 150 pounds.

Temperament

Bred by the Russian Army to be the ideal military and police dog, the Black Russian Terrier is an intelligent working dog marked by its fearlessness and strength. It is a mixture of several breeds including: Giant Schnauzer, Airedale Terrier, Rottweiler, Great Dane, and Moscow Retrievers. This breed is said to be loyal and confident, although slightly aggressive. It is long-lived for a large breed, but does have an increased risk of hip dysplasia.
