General Appearance

The Bolognese’s coat is flocked, single layer with no feathering. It offers little cold protection or protection from the sun. The Bolognese tolerates the heat well, but needs some protection from sunburn. The Bolognese comes in only 1 color …. White, some champagne coloring is allowed behind the ears. The average height of the Bolognese is 9-12.5 in. and the average weight is 5.5 to 9lb. Life span is 14-17 years.

Temperament

The Bolognese is very intelligent, never rambunctious, very affectionate and eager to please its owner. Requires gentle training because, in some instances, the dog is smarter than its owner and this breed does not suffer fools lightly. Makes a wonderful pet for a family or a well behaved older child (6 yrs. or more) or companion dog for the elderly. Makes a great apartment dog, but does not like being left alone. Requires light daily combing and does not shed (is hypoallergenic). This breed is very clean and needs bathing only once a month under normal conditions. The rough-n-ready appearance of the Bolognese is unusual in the Toy Breed category, but this dog will do it all (with a smile).
