General Appearance

The Borzoi looks like the more well-known Greyhound except it has a coat of long, silky hair. It has a deep chest, long tail, and streamlined body. Its fur can be straight or slightly wavy and comes in a wide variety of colors. The Borzoi is one of the largest sighthounds. It stands 26-30 inches and males can weight up to 120 pounds.

Temperament

Despite its large size and wolf-hunting past, the Borzoi is gentle and calm. This breed is very fast and athletic, but it is not territorial. It takes well to easy living, and it will happily lounge on a couch all day. Borzoi, like some other sighthounds, are sensitive to harsh treatment.

Is a Borzoi Puppy Right for You?

The Borzoi adapts very well to household living. It can live with other pets, although they do have the sighthound’s chase instinct and must be watched around cats and other small animals. The Borzoi can live well even in apartments as long as it has a chance to run each day. This dog should never be allowed off leash unless in a totally contained yard or well away from roads; recall won’t be possible if it gives chase, and it has no traffic sense whatsoever.
