General Appearance
At first glance, the Belgian Malinois looks much like the more well known German Shepherd. However, the Malinois has longer legs and is slightly smaller. This breed has a short coat that is red, fawn, or brown, and has a black mask on its face. This is a medium sized breed generally weighing between 50 and 70 pounds and standing between 23 and 25 inches. Males are significantly larger than females.
Temperament
The Malinois is highly intelligent and energetic. It is a very hard-working breed. It excels in any number of roles including: obedience training, tracking, herding, or agility. It has been used in its home country as a police dog and border patrol dog, and it is currently used around the world for police work and search and rescue.
