General Appearance
The Bloodhound is well-known for its long floppy ears, its folds of loose skin, its large size, and its deep baying bark. This breed is usually black and tan, liver and tan, or solid reddish brown. It often has white markings on its chest. This is a large dog, standing 23 to 27 inches and weighing up to 100 pounds.
Temperament
The Bloodhound is the most sophisticated scenthound in existence. It was breed solely to follow scents and not to attack animals. This lead to an incredibly friendly and gentle breed, with an amazing nose. The Bloodhound sometimes suffers from gastrointestinal problems and is a short-lived breed. It often lives only 7 years.

The Bloodhound makes a wonderful family dog and thrives on human company. It does have very strong tracking instincts and needs a large fenced yard lest it wander away after a scent. This dog’s instincts can sometimes make it difficult to train. The breed is known for its slobbering, and it can easily send slobber in every direction with a shake of its head.
