General Appearance

The Curly is a sturdy dog easily identified by its unique curly coat. Its coat is always black (or close to it) and features tight, densely packed curls. Its coat is water resistant and provides the Curly with protection from the elements and terrain. The Curly-Coated Retriever stands 25 to 27 inches at the shoulders.

Temperament

Bred to be a gun dog, the Curly makes an excellent waterfowl retriever. This breed is said to be affectionate, intelligent, and very loyal to its family. It is also said to be an unusually good house guard for a sporting dog. This breed is very hardy and healthy, although it does occasionally suffer from baldness around the throat and hind legs.
