The Irish Wolfhound is the tallest of dogs and has a formidable appearance. It is thick boned and deep chested. It has a rough, all-weather coat commonly seen in grey, black, wheaten, or red. This dog is commonly between 33 and 36 inches in height and weighs 100 to 150 pounds.

Temperament

The Irish Wolfhound is gentle, relaxed, and very easygoing. This breed is not aggressive; it is good with dogs, people, and even children. However, in the face of danger this is fierce dog. The Wolfhound has a higher than average rate of bone cancer, and bloat is a common problem. It only lives 6 years on average.
