General Appearance

The Lowchen is most recognizable with its traditional lion cut, which leaves the hindquarters, legs, and first third of the tale shaved. This is the trim used when showing the dog, but is completely optional. If left unshaved, its coat can be brushed like that of a regular dog. This breed various in height between 8 and 14 inches and may weigh from 9 to 18 pounds.

Temperament

This Lowchun is outgoing, friendly, and lively. This breed is intelligent and does well with people and dogs. It is good around children. The Lowchun is a healthy breed with few hereditary problems. It can be a bit strong willed at times, and doesn’t always realize it is a small dog.

The Lowchen is suitable for apartment living and does well virtually anywhere. It does require plenty of human company. If the traditional lion cut is maintained, the Lowchen won’t stay warm in cold winter weather.
