General Appearance

The Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen is a small, rough-coated scenthound. It has a rather charming appearance, with its untidy looking hair and its mustached face. This breed has a sturdy body that is slightly long. Its coat is rough and harsh and is often white with black, grizzle, orange, or tan markings. Both males and females stand between 13 and 15 inches and weigh between 25 and 40 pounds.

Temperament

These happy hounds are born extroverts. They are happy, intelligent, and always wagging their tales. The PBGV makes a great family dog. They do very well with people, dogs, children, and other pets. This breed is known to howl frequently with other dogs, or even to certain music. This is a fairly healthy breed, which lives approximately 13 years.

The PBGV makes a terrific companion. However, like many hounds, it can be quite vocal. Additionally, it has hunting instincts and will likely chase birds or small fury animals (including cats, if it isn’t accustomed to them).
