General Appearance

It has a bit of a beard and mustache and plenty of fur around its chest and shoulders. This dog appears muscular and powerful.
Temperament
The Scottish Deerhound, like many large sighthounds, is relaxed, gentle, and usually docile. It enjoys the company of its family, and it is very good with people and children. This is a courageous breed, and it is an impressive athlete. It needs to run daily, but otherwise is content to relax. This dog breed lives about 10 years.
Is a Scottish Deerhound Puppy Right for You?
This is a large, powerful dog that requires early training. However, it can live virtually anywhere, even in small homes, as long as it is appropriately exercised each day. A large fenced yard is ideal, because this sighthound will chase small animals. However, it can live in the city provided it gets to run in a safe area. Unless raised with cats, it probably shouldn’t be trusted around them.
